Most of Pat's sculpting ability came from the books he devoured and from working with Plasticine clay, but he did take a few classes at the Cranbrook Institute in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Sculpting became his medium of choice until the early seventies when he taught himself to use pastel chalks. He remained interested in pastels until moving to Indiana in 1978, when he began painting with acrylics. He continued painting in acrylic until 1986 when he took several watercolor workshops at the Indianapolis Art League. Watercolor caught his fancy and he began experimenting to see what he could do. He discovered endless possibilities and continues to enjoy creating in watercolor.

He has been teaching classes for the past year at the Public Library and the Park and Recreation Center. Rumor has it that his classes are extremely popular. What a tribute to Pat's talent and ability to connect with students and the inspiration of Aunt Grace who taught him how to draw cartoon characters so many years ago.
