Will your project be self contained or will it really use the power of the Internet as a communication tool? As you design pages, consider interaction. Can email, chat, discussion groups, or desktop video conferencing be used in your project?

try itGo to the Ask a Librarian page at Greece Athena Media Center.

Make connections to resource people in your local area as well as around the world. What kinds of information could you share? Why would people from other locations be interested in your projects and website? Think beyond your classroom or library. What's the value of collaboration and sharing? What unique resources do you have in your local area that might be of interest to students in another part of the world? How could you connect with some local experts to develop an "ask an expert" project?

Design active communication projects. Share information, then ask for input or feedback.

Go beyond simply posting projects. Ask for interaction. For example, the Email Essay project posted student projects and asked for email reviews. The reviews were then linked to the projects. Collect and share data from surveys or scientific experiments. Collaborate on writing or artistic projects.
