Ancient Libraries: 900s BCE

Troy Wikimedia Commons PDLet's examine the impact of Homer's epic poetry.

Cultural history of this time centered around the Mediterranean Sea. It's during this time that the earliest recorded Greek poetry of Homer (ca. 1000-700 BCE) was written including the Iliad and the Odyssey.

This is significant because a huge number of fragments of Homer's work on papyrus have been found. Far more than any other works.

Since nothing is known about the life of Homer, the works could have been written by others. However what is known is that the works were extremely popular.

In introduction of Greek script, enabled the complex notation that makes up the poetry.
