Camps with Instant Phone or Direct Internet
As full-time RVers whose livelihood depends upon the ability to connect directly to the Internet, update our website, and communicate/interact with learners . . . we seek out campgrounds that have direct phone connections at the campsite ('Instant phone' service). On a few occasions, we have had to make arrangements with the local phone company for a limited time service, but we prefer finding campgrounds with their own phone system that allows for 'instant' hookup as soon as we arrive. The following list identifies RV Parks with instant phone service and/or wireless Internet. Note that in most cases, we reserved these campsites ahead of time and confirmed that phone service would be available. Oftentimes, the actual number of campsites with phone connections are limited (Sometimes as few as one, more often 4 to 10, and rarely available at all sites); therefore prior reservations are important. In addition, instant phone service usually costs $1 to $2.50 extra per day.

Keeping in mind the need for instant phone connections, where can you start looking for such campgrounds . . . that is for locations where we haven't been? You can find some help at these sites:: 1) Go Camping America At this 'advanced search page' select the state location, then click on the desired amenities including 'phone hookups.' Once the search is completed, you then have a list of possible campgrounds to contact.; 2) Instant On-site Phone Hookups at Fulltiming America (Directory of campgrounds with instant phone hookups identified - now a pay service/membership required); 3) National Directory at The Way Outdoors (Links-site to campground directories); 4) Woodall's Campground Directory Search by state (Allows you to specify city) and for 'phone or modem hookup.' This search yields lots of possibilities, but requires more time for verification because all types of phone service are lumped together.

Reminder: Again . . . terminology regarding phone campsites is applied loosely. Persons submitting the campground data sometimes provide incomplete or inaccurate information. For example, we encountered a campground that listed their pay phones as phone hookups. Claims of phone hookup may range from occasional access to a modem hookup in a campground building (office or rec hall) or a required long-term stay and contacting the local phone company, to the real deal - - instant phone service at your campsite.

Personal Note: In November 2001, we acquired (beta tested original model) a moveable satellite system that allows us to connect directly to the Internet without a phone. To learn more about the MotoSat unit, visit Moveable 2-Way Internet Satellite System. In October 2003, we replaced the original .72 meter dish with a 1.2 meter dish. Although we do not generally require instant phone or Internet service, we will still maintain this webpage and update it as we become aware of additional campground capabilities.
