Welcome to S401: Computer-based Information Tools
Graduate students in the Department of Library and Information Science come to the program with a wide range of academic degrees and life experiences.
All incoming students should possess entry skills related to technology. These include basic hardware, software, and networking skills such as the use of a word processor, a web browser, and a printer. Beyond the very basic skills, students entering the graduate program are likely to possess a wide range of technology skills.
To be successful in the Department of Library and Information Science, all students need knowledge, skills, and dispositions related to a technology core; professionalism and digital citizenship; and systems and information technology.
The purpose of s401 is to bridge the gap between basic technology entry skills and the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to be successful with graduate coursework in library and information science. By the time you graduate, you should have mastery of all the objectives.
When you're ready to begin, work your way through the sections of the course listed on the left sidebar.
