Gettysburg Pennsylvania We thought that Sunday might be a quiet day at Gettysburg National Park. We were wrong. The Visitor Center was packed. We bought a CD audio tour and enjoyed the drive through town to the first audio stop. We were happy to see that once we got into the more rural areas of the park, the tourist traffic wasn't as thick. |
The Tour We spent much of our time in the car enjoying the narration on the audio tour, but made a few stops. One stop was on Little Roundtop. This setting was connected to my favorite scenes in the movie Gettysburg, the site of the pivotal battle of the 20th Maine.

The Battlefield We really enjoyed getting a feel for the battlefield. Below left shows the view from the northern line to the southern line. Below right is the view of Lee and Picket from the southern line to the northern line.

Re-enactors One of the advantages of visiting on a summer weekend is the re-enactors. Below are photographs from the northern camp. Nancy particularly enjoyed looking at the guns. She said they reminded her of her great grandfather's Civil War gun. We had a wonderful day and decided that we'd have to bring husbands next time. |
